Dear Donor/s,

Thank you so much for your support to aid in construction of Adaikkalam Old Age Home provides special care for destitute and abandoned elders free of cost.

Elders are integral part of the society and need to be cared equally like any other age group. Present day scenario, the change in life style and with advanced medical developments ensures the longevity of human life and increases the population of old age persons.

Considering the increase of old age population and the increase in the number of destitute and abandoned elders in Madurai, we have stepped in and started a home to take care of them. As of now we are facing a lot of difficulties in running this home in a rental building which consumes more recurring expenditures and we need to shift often too. Also we are restricted to the available facility which is actually a residential building and not proposed for an old age home.

In this regard, we kindly seek your support towards the purchase of land and construction of old age home to ensure a safe and secures place for the abandoned and destitute elders. We look forward to working with you to put a smile on the faces of these uncared elderly population.

About Adaikkalam Old Age Home:

Adaikkalam old age home is an initiative by “Wish to help charitable trust” operating since 2016. Formed by the group of young volunteers residing in and around Thirunagar, Madurai and fondly known as Thirunagar Pakkam team. Thirunagar pakkam team is known for their multiple social welfare activities including snake rescue & awareness, rehabilitation and re-habitation of stray animals, tree plantation and maintenance, rejuvenation of water bodies, Medical camps & blood donations, volunteering in disasters and in other general welfare activities.

This Adaikalam old age home is established in the year 2020 as the result of after effect of NCOVID-19 Pandemic. As mentioned above, it was registered under district social welfare department and listed as free caring home for the destitute aged.

We are running this home purely on the support of donors & sponsors and not charging the residents. Also, we are limiting the admissions only to the destitute and abandons.

Currently we are operating in a rented building at Thirunagar, Madurai, Tamilnadu, India. At present we are accommodating 27 elders (Female -14, Male -13) in the home and a total of 7 employees including an admin, cook, housekeeper and a nurse, are taking care of them.

All the details of the residents staying here, were shared and documented with social welfare department and in the local police station. Audit and accounts of the trust/home are properly maintained every year and we maintain transparency in receiving and spending the donations. Our trust was certified with 80G and 12 AA to receive donations and get tax exemptions, by the Income Tax department.

Apart from this we are also rescuing people with mental illness, differently abled who are abandoned and lying roadside. We accommodate them in various service minded homes. Also we are reuniting the elders rescued from roadside with their families with the support of local volunteers and well-wishers. Recently we have reunited some of the residents with their families residing in Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, inside Tamil Nadu and also with people residing in Madurai.

சேர்க்கை வழிமுறைகள்: நமது இல்லத்தில் சேர்க்கைக்கான விதிமுறைகள் கீழ்கண்டவாறு வகுக்கப்பட்டது.

1. கட்டணம் செலுத்த இயலாத கைவிடப்பட்ட ஏழை முதியோராக இருத்தல் வேண்டும்
2. திருமணம் ஆகாத அல்லது வாரிசுகளற்ற முதியோராக இருத்தல் வேண்டும்
3. மனைவியை இழந்தோர் / கணவனை இழந்தோருக்கு முன்னுரிமை
4. முதியோர் தங்கள் பெண் பிள்ளையை திருமணம் செய்து கொடுத்துவிட்டு தங்களுக்கு நிரந்தர வாழ்விடம், உணவின்றி தவிப்போருக்கு அடைக்கலம்.

நிதி ஒருங்கிணைப்பு மற்றும் மேலாண்மை :

முதியோர் இல்லம் தொடங்குவதற்கான நிதியானது சேவை மனப்பான்மை கொண்ட நல்ல உள்ளங்களின் மூலம்  நமது அறக்கட்டளைக்கு பெரும்பகுதி நன்கொடையாக பெறப்பட்டது. அதன் அடிப்படையில் கட்டிடத்திற்கு தேவையான முன் பணம், மாத வாடகை, கட்டில் படுக்கை, உணவுப் பொருட்கள், சமையலறை  சாதனங்கள், அலுவலக ஃபர்னிச்சர்கள், மருத்துவ சாதனங்கள், பொழுது போக்கு சாதனங்கள் போன்றவை நிதியாகவும் பொருட்களாகவும் பெறப்பட்டது(இதில் புதிய மற்றும் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்ட பொருட்களும் அடங்கும்).

அன்றாட உணவுத்தேவையானது அறக்கட்டளை நிதியின் மூலமாகவும், தவிர  பிறந்தநாள், நினைவுநாள், இல்ல விசேஷங்கள், பண்டிகைகள்  போன்ற நாட்களில் பொதுமக்கள் அளிக்கும் உணவு தானத்தின் மூலமும்  நிறைவேற்றப்படுகிறது.

Idea of Establishment:முதியோர் இல்லம் ஒரு குறிப்பு:

During the lockdown of NCOVID-19 first wave our team cooked and distributed food packets to the destitute at roadside. We came to know many of their stories and their difficulties in staying roadside and getting food every day. So we have decided and started this free home to support those elders who are in severe need of care.

திருநகர் பக்கம், ஊர்வனம் மற்றும் நீர்வனம் குழுவின் தொடர் எட்டு ஆண்டுகள் சேவையில் கொரோனா தொற்று முதல் அலையின் போது ஆதரவற்றோருக்கு தேவையான உணவு பொட்டலங்கள் இலவசமாக விநியோகித்த வேளையில் எவ்வித ஆதரவின்றி நிர்கதியாய் காணப்பட்ட முதியோர்களை காண நேரிட்டது.அந்த நேரம் மனதில் உதித்த எண்ணம் தான் ஆதரவற்றோருக்கான முதியோர் இல்லம் தொடங்க  வேண்டும் என்பது.

இதன் அடிப்படையில் திருநகர் பக்கம் குழுவை சேர்ந்த  களப்பணியாளர்களுடன் ஆலோசித்து ஆதரவற்ற பெரியவர்களுக்கு எவ்வித சேவை கட்டணமும் இன்றி 100 % இலவசமாக முதியோருக்கு  சேவை செய்திட “அடைக்கலம் முதியோர் இல்லம்” என்ற பெயரில் நமது இல்லம் ஜூலை 2020 ல், திருநகர் 5 வது நிறுத்தம் ஆசிரியர் தெருவில் வாடகை கட்டிடத்தில் தொடங்கப்பட்டது.

 Adaikkalam old age home is approved under Maintenance and welfare of parents and Senior citizens act, 2009, Tamilnadu governed by District Social welfare Board – Madurai. We have submitted all the statutory compliances and received NOC from Police department, Revenue department, Food and Safety department, Fire service, Sanitary department, Building stability issuing officer etc.  அரசு அங்கீகாரம் பெறுவதற்காக மாவட்ட சமூகநலத்துறை வழிகாட்டுதலின்படி தேவையான ஆவணங்கள் காவல்துறை, தீயணைப்புத்துறை, வருவாய்த்துறை, சுகாதாரத்துறை, உணவு பாதுகாப்புத்துறை, கட்டிட தர சான்றிதழ் துறை போன்ற துறைகளின் மூலமாக தடையில்லா சான்று ஆவணங்கள் பெறப்பட்டு சமூகநலத்துறையில்  சமர்ப்பிக்கப்பட்ட து . அவர்களின் நேரடி கள ஆய்வுக்குப்பின் முதியோர் இல்லம் நடத்துவதற்கான பதிவு சான்றிதழ் பெறப்பட்டது. 

Services with Government departments: அரசுத்துறைகளுடன் இணைந்தாற்றிய சேவைகள் :

We do voluntary services to various Government departments on rescue of abandoned people, providing ambulance to drop the destitute in hospitals and in other homes, NCOVID -19 care and medical emergency services. Especially we are working closely with elder helpline in reunion and rehabilitation and with forest department in rescuing snakes and other stray animals and also in conducting awareness programmes.

 

சமூகநலத்துறை, மூத்தகுடிமக்கள், காவல்துறை, இதர அரசுத்துறையினருடன்  இணைந்து அவர்களின் வேண்டுகோள்  மற்றும் வழிகாட்டுதலின்படி சாலையோரத்தில் ஆதரவின்றி தவிக்கும், நோயால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட முதியோர்களை மீட்டு நமது காப்பகம் மற்றும் இதர காப்பகத்தில் சேர்த்திட தன்னார்வலர்கள் மற்றும் அவசர ஊர்தி சேவை வழங்கப்பட்டது. 

 

Daily food time table:

We have developed a diet chart and cooking nutritious and quality food in-house and serving it to the residents accordingly. However it changes when we receive food from the donors outside.

 

 

 

Accommodation facilities: படுக்கை வசதி :

All the residents were provided cots & foam beds with adequate space. Special cots and beds were provided for the bedridden and sick residents. All the rooms are ensured with adequate ventilation and ample lighting. Each bathroom is having a water heater and all the toilets are of western type with hand rails for ease of use.

முதலில் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்ட வாடகை கட்டிடத்தில் 13 படுக்கை வசதியும், இரண்டாவதாக இடமாற்றம் செய்யப்பட்ட கட்டிடத்தில் 16 படுக்கை வசதியும் ஏற்படுத்த்தப்பட்டது. நாளடைவில் பொது மக்களிடத்தில் நமது இல்லம் இலவச முதியோர் சேவையில் சிறப்பாக செயல்பட்டதால் ஆதரவற்றோர் சேர்க்கை பெருகத்தொடங்கியது.  இதனையடுத்து கூடுதலாக 30 படுக்கை வசதி, நடைப்பயிற்சி, கழிப்பறை வசதி, சுத்தமான சுற்றுச்சூழல், தோட்டம் போன்றவற்றிற்காக மூன்றாவது முறையாக பெரிய அளவில் மாடியுடன் கூடிய  வாடகை கட்டிடத்திற்கு இடமாற்றம் செய்யப்பட்டு தற்போது செயல்பட்டு வருகிறது.

 

Admission procedures:

Most of our residents are abandoned destitute rescued from roadside. Rescues are done under the guidance of District Social Welfare Department – Elder Helpline. Intimation will be given to the local police station at every rescue. Additionally we accommodate elders who didn’t have a person to care. Normally we avoid admitting elders who is having sons and relatives to care. 

 

Rescue and Reunion: குடும்பத்தை தொலைத்தோரை மீண்டும் சேர்ப்பித்தல் :

We are not only accommodating all the elders rescued from roadside but also reuniting them with their families for whomever it is possible. We have volunteers who is good at investigating and communicating with the families. Not every elder is an actual destitute. Some may lost their family due to physical and mental instability and also due to age factor. We counsel them and their families and reunite them.

வழி தெரியாது, மொழி தெரியாது பிற மாநிலங்களில்  இருந்து உறவினர்களால் கைவிடப்பட்ட பெரியோர்களை மீட்டு மீண்டும் அவர்தம் இல்லத்தில் உறவுகளிடத்தில் ஒப்படைத்தல். முதுமை ஞயாபகமறதி காரணமாக வழிதவறியவர்களை மீட்டு குடும்பத்துடன் சேர்க்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.

 Recreation at home: பொழுதுபோக்கு வசதிகள்:

We involve our elders in gardening works, walking, and reading, and encourage them to do some physical activities to keep them active. Apart from that they do watch Television, read newspapers & magazines, listen to radio, and do meditation too. In the evenings they sit together and chat with others and also we give some talks and play games with them often.

நமது இல்லத்தில் உள்ள முதியோர்களின் பொழுது போக்கிற்கு தொலைக்காட்சி ,வானொலி, நூலகம், தியானம், விளையாட்டு, தோட்டம் என பல வகைகளில் அவர்கள் எப்போதும் மகிழ்ச்சியாக வைத்துக்கொள்ள அணைத்து முயற்சிகளும் எடுக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது.

Medical Support: மருத்துவ வசதி :

In order to ensure & maintain their physical and mental wellbeing, we have arranged a weekly regular health check-up by a volunteer doctor. We have also registered all the residents in nearby Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) & also in the Government Rajaji hospital (GRH). Monthly regular health check-ups ensured either direct visit to UPHC or sometimes the staff nurse visits our home directly. We immediately shift the patient/s to GRH on critical emergencies.

 வாரம் தோறும் சனிக்கிழமை மருத்துவரின் நேரடி வருகையும், மாதம் ஒருமுறை அரசு ஆரம்ப சுகாதார நிலையத்திலும், அவசர உதவிக்கு நகர்ப்புற அல்லது மாவட்ட அரசு ராசாசி மருத்துவமனை மருத்துவர்கள் உதவியுடன் பரிசோதனையும் சிகிச்சையும் வழங்கப்படுகிறது.

Health check-up camps:

Routine health check-up and vaccination camps are organised at our old age home periodically. Eye check-up with the support of Aravind Eye Hospital, Blood sugar and pressure check-ups, full body check-ups, Physiotherapy and Psychotherapy counselling are regularly conducted with the voluntary support of various institutions and individual practitioners.

 

Funeral support:

As most of our residents are destitute aged we do their last homages at their demise, according to their religious and cultural beliefs. All the deaths are filed and recorded with relevant government departments, Social welfare office and also with the nearby police station by submitting required documents.

 

 

 

Public welfare activities:

Apart from the regular home activities, our staffs and volunteers are regularly doing hair dressing to the people residing roadside near the temple, they help them in bathing, changing them new cloths and offering food often.

We have employed an Administrator, a field manager, a cook, an accountant, a nurse, a clerk, a housekeeper and a night watchman/security to ensure proper and smooth flow of the home activities.

 

 

Our Volunteers:

Our team is known for its voluntary services. Many likeminded youngsters and students and of various age group came together to do voluntary services and so we are able to get involved in many public welfare activities. Our volunteers do support in the smooth running of our Adaikkalam old age home and also they are supporting in organising many recreational activities and programmes.

அடைக்கலம் இல்லத்திற்கு பள்ளி, கல்லூரி மாணவர்கள் மற்றும் பொதுமக்கள் குழுக்களாக வருகைபுரிந்து நமது இல்லத்தில் உள்ள முதியோர்களிடம் தங்கள் நேரத்தை இனிமையாக செலவு செய்து, அவர்களுடன் உரையாடி, ஆடி பாடி மகிழ்வித்து மகிழ்வது தொடர்ந்து நடைபெறுகிறது.

 

Need for the project:

At present Adaikkalam old age home is operating in a rented building supporting 27 elders. We receive lot of requests for rescue and the need for destitute care is also huge. However we understand that we alone will not be able to care all the destitute in the community but would like to support at least 70 elders in 2-3 years. Maintenance and sustainability of the old age home is a major issue and paying rent for a commercial building is an additional burden. Also we were not able to ensure adequate space for all their recreational activities and other physical needs.

One more pressing issue is, we have shifted to 3 buildings in the past one year as the owners of the buildings are keep selling the homes and it was a big burden in the past and also a concern in the future. It was hard to shift all the elders and their belongings and also finding a new building with huge space and necessary facilities and also recreating the atmosphere every time is challenging.

To avail benefits from some Govt programmes are also required an own building. For example, getting free electricity. Considering all these challenges, we have decided to purchase land and build our own old age home.

 

Target population:

The proposed Adaikkalam old age home will be specially designed to care destitute elders.

Following are listed destitute / selection criteria

1. Abandoned elders
2. Differently abled elders
3. Elders affected by chronic diseases
4. Unmarried elders without siblings
5. Married elders but didn’t have children
6. Widow or widower didn’t have children

This targeted elderly from low or no economic background will be identified and admitted based on the above-mentioned criteria.

 

Goal:
Our primary goal is to establish a multi-facility old age home which ensures the elders, a place of hope and respect to live. It will provide them a friendly atmosphere and ensures a quality of life which enable the residents to retain their independence, identity and sense of value.

 

Purchase of land and building construction:
We have planned to purchase/receive in kind, a land in of 45000 Sq. ft. (1 Acre approx.) in and around Thirupparankundram / Thirumangalam block, Madurai, which approximately costs Rs.50/- Lakhs. Easy access for hospital and other facilities will be ensured while purchasing land.

We have planned to build 15000 Sq. ft.(approximate) building includes ground and first floor which can accommodate 60+ residents as per the government norms.

Each elder will be provided individual cot and bed, with mini almirah to store their personal belongings.  The proposed building will be planned with separate medical and nursing care room, kitchen and dining hall, adequate toilet facility accessible for both active and non-active elders, meeting hall, walking area and garden around it, compound wall with CCTV setup.

Land will be purchased once the sufficient money had been collected.  Building will be constructed further we receive donations for the same.

Construction will be done by certified and experienced engineer qualitatively with proper plan and approvals from required departments and agencies.

தேவையான இடம் : எங்களின் இந்த  திட்டத்திற்கான அடிப்படைத் தேவையான நிலமானது குறைந்தபட்சம் 1 ஏக்கர்  வரை தேவைப்படுகிறது. இந்த நிலத்தின் தேவையானது பொதுமக்களின் நன்கொடை மூலமாகவோ அன்பளிப்பு மூலமாகவோ அல்லது நமது கட்டிட நிதியின் மூலமாகவோ வாங்க திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

தொடர்ச்சியாக மருத்துவ முகாம், கண் பரிசோதனை, மனநல ஆலோசனை முகாம்கள் மூலம் முதியோர்களின் ஆரோக்கியம் பேணப்படுகின்றது. 

 

நோயால் கடுமையாக பாதிக்கப்பட்டு கைவிடப்பட்ட தெருவோரம் வீசப்பட்ட பெரியோர்களை மீட்டு அவர்களுக்கு தேவையான மருத்துவ சிகிச்சை அளித்து ஆதரவளிக்கப்பட்டது.

தவிர நாம் செய்து வரும் சிறப்பான சேவையை மென்மேலும் பெரியளவில் செய்திட பொதுமக்களிடத்தில் இருந்து வரும் கோரிக்கைகளை ஏற்று நிரந்தரமாக சொந்தமாக ஒரு முதியோர் இல்லம் நிலம் வாங்கி அணைத்து அடிப்படை வசதிகளுடன் கூடிய  கட்டிடம் கட்டுவதற்கு நிதி திரட்டிட முயற்சிகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டு வருகிறது.

அடைக்கலம் முதியோர் இல்ல நிரந்தர வாழ்விடத்திட்டம்

ஆதரவற்ற முதியோர் சேவையில் கடந்த இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளாக சிறப்புடன்  இயங்கிவரும் நமது அடைக்கலம் முதியோர் இல்லத்தின் எதிர்கால தேவையினை கருத்தில் கொண்டு பெருகிவரும் ஆதரவற்ற மற்றும் புறக்கணிக்கப்பட்ட பெரியோர்களின் நலனை கருத்தில் கொண்டு அவர்களுக்காக அணைத்து வசதிகளுடன் கூடிய ஒரு நிரந்தர முதியோர் இல்ல கட்டிடத்தை உருவாக்கிட முடிவு செய்துள்ளோம். இந்த இல்லத்தில் முதியோர்களுக்கு தேவையான அணைத்து அடிப்படை வசதிகளான நவீன படுக்கைவசதிகள், சுற்றுச்சூழல், பூஜையறை, வரவேற்பறை, பார்வையாளர்கள் அறை, கவுன்சிலிங் அறை, நூலகம், தொலைகாட்சியறை, கலந்துரையாடல் கூட்டரங்கம், நடைப்பயிற்சி வளாகம், தோட்டம் மற்றும் நந்தவனம், யோகா அறை, தியானக்கூடம்,சமையல்கூடங்கள், பொழுதுபோக்கு வசதிகள், கூடுதல் குளியலறை, கழிவறைகள்  உள்ளிட்ட நவீன கட்டமைப்பு வசதிகளை உருவாக்கிட திட்டமிட்டுள்ளோம்.

இடம் அமைப்பு: இந்த நிலத்தில் அமையவுள்ள இல்லமானது  பொது மக்கள் எளிதல் அணுக கூடியதாகவும் மற்றும் அவசர மருத்துவ வசதி பெறவும் விரைவான  போக்குவரத்து வசதி, தொலைத்தொடர்பு வசதி  உள்ள இடமாகவும் இருத்தலாக வேண்டுமென  எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.

உள்கட்டமைப்பு: இதில் ஆண் மற்றும் பெண்களுக்கு தனி அறைகளும் வழங்கப்படவுள்ளது. மொத்தம் 70 படுக்கை வசதிகள் மற்றும் மருத்துவ உதவி தேவைப்படும் முதியோர்களுக்கு சிறப்பு வசதிகளும் ஏற்படுத்தப்பட உள்ளது.

வெளிகட்டமைப்பு : வளாகத்தை சுற்றி வெளிப்புற சுற்றுச்சுவர், இயற்கை காற்றை சுவாசிக்க கட்டிடத்தின் வெளி சுற்றுப்பகுதியில் முதியோர்கள் நடைப்பயிற்சி மேற்கொள்ள நடைபாதை வளாகம், நாளிதழ் வாசிப்பு மற்றும் புத்தக வாசிப்பு, யோகா மற்றும் தியானம் மேற்கொள்ள தனி இட வசதிகள் ஏற்படுத்தப்படவுள்ளது, முதியோர்களை மற்றும் வேலையாட்களை கண்காணிக்க பாதுகாவலர் அறை, நமது இல்லத்தின் உணவு தேவையை பூர்த்தி செய்ய காய்கறி, பழங்கள், கீரைகள் மற்றும் மூலிகை தாவரங்கள் முதியோர்களால் பயிரிட மற்றும் பராமரிக்க இடவசதி, மாலை நேர இளைப்பாறலுக்கு நந்தவனம், கால்நடை வளர்ப்பு போன்ற எங்கள் முதியோர்களின் ஆசைகளையும்  ஆலோசனைகளையும் திட்டங்களாக வடிவமைத்துள்ளோம்.

நிதி மதிப்பீடு: நிலம், கட்டிட கட்டுமானப்பணிகள், உள்கட்டமைப்பு வசதிகள் உள்ளிட்ட பிற வசதிகள் ஏற்படுத்துவதற்கு திட்ட நிதியாக
